Answering Rabbi Guttman – Does The Tanakh Reject Yeshua Dying For Our Sins – NO

Dr. Eitan Bar on One For Israel answers Rabbi Guttman’s video that states “Jew destroyed Christianity in 2 min”, refuting Guttman’s claims from the Bible, the Talmud, Rashi, and the spokesman for Guttman’s own sect!

A man called Rabbi Guttman has made the argument that the Torah / Bible says Yeshua / Jesus couldn’t have died for sins, because Deuteronomy essentially says a (sinful) person cannot be killed for someone else’s sins, as Dr. Eitan Bar points out (which I’ll elaborate a little here), this is speaking about one sinful person not taking the capital punishment for the sins of another person… it is not talking about a sinless person dying for the forgiveness of the sins of others.

The only comment I’ll personally add here (other than repeating information in the video below from One For Israel) is to go read Isaiah 53 (and drop your Rabbinic excuses that render the passage nonsensical in order to avoid the plain reading of the text), AND Daniel 9:25-26 which specifically says that Messiah the Prince would die – but not for himself – before the destruction of the city and the (second) temple… AND gives a cryptic timeline for when the Messiah would appear, which comes out to the exact timing of Jesus’ Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem riding on a donkey, among other passages (for more references and foreshadowings, see: “Did Jesus Die?” on Reviewing Islam’s site).

Now, most interesting is that the man’s argument is refuted by the Talmud (rabbinic traditions), AND Rashi (said to be the greatest Jewish commentator), AND by Guttman’s own sect’s spokesperson!

Here are the quotes from the video:

“As the Day of Atonement atones over Israel, so is the death of the righteous atones over Israel.” ~Talmud Yerushalmi, Yoma 2a.

“What is the purpose of the sacrifices? They effect atonement! So, too, does the death of the righteous effect atonement!” ~Rashi, on Numbers 20.

“Through his sufferings, the Messiah atones for his generation and enables every Jew to receive redemption. As it says: ‘Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows’ [Isaiah 53:4]” ~”The days of Moshiach”, Menachem M. Brod
